For instance, when I did a keyword search on labor, 36 pieces of legislation came up. One of them, S. 766:, is a bill to amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to provide more effective remedies of victims of discrimination in the payment of wages on the basis of sex, and for other purposes.

It indicates the bill's status, introduced on March 6, 2007. And, as it makes it through each hurdle in the process, all the way to "signed by the president," you know what is going on

Thanks for the tip, Nicki!  The political junkies always enjoy a little more food for thought.  To add to this one, check out OpenCongress.org which very similar to GovTrack.  It is also an independent site.  It provides tracking, search functions, "find your legislators" links and a blog providing commentary and in-depth discussions.
